"And the award goes to..."

'Water Lily at Bouchard Gardens' wins the 2D Juror's Choice Award at the 2009 Juried Art Exhibit hosted by the Oakville Art Society

I was shocked and delighted by this fantastic news! This is the first time that I have ever entered into a juried art show. I was simply hoping that my art would be accepted for showing at the exhibit... let alone win first place!

I won the award on October 2nd, 2009. My painting will remain a part of the exhibit until the end of the month. Please feel free to view it at the Oakville Municipal Building.

I am grateful to my Mom, who entered my painting into the exhibit on my behalf while I am still living and working in Nova Scotia. I would also like to thank Katherine MacDonald, who judged my work worthy of the award.

I had originally opted to sell my beloved little water lily painting... but now I am not so sure...

Winner of 'Piece of the Week' at the Clay Cafe!

I had a much needed day off last week, and I decided to use it for creative purposes. I had been given a gift certificate for the Clay Cafe in Halifax, so that is where I went. There were so many pieces of pottery to choose from... I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to make, but I finally decided on an autumn-themed mug, being my favourite time of year and all. I spent a few hours at the Cafe creating my mug. When I was finished I was told to come back in half a week's time to pick-up the finished (glazed) product, so I did. Upon my return, I asked for my mug and one of the employees pointed to the front counter... there it was... shining from the light of a small spotlight. My autumn mug had won 'piece of the week'!!!

I was very happy, but I still wanted to bring it home. The employee offered me another gift certificate if I agreed to leave my mug on display for the rest of the week, as they were very impressed by how well it turned-out. I accepted of course, as now I have the funds to create my mug a partner.

I brought my autumn mug home yesterday, and have it sitting on my dining table on display as part of my Thanksgiving center-piece... very elaborate I know! I was very excited to use it, but now I'm thinking only for special occasions.
